The GrowSF Report: New Year's Letter
Fixing San Francisco in 2022
We Can Fix San Francisco in 2022
The future's in our name. GrowSF is by definition forward-looking. And on this New Year's Day of 2022, we are hopeful that San Francisco can become the truly world class city it is meant to be.
To get there, we first need to accept that our city is in crisis. Our elected officials have failed at the basics: housing, transit, schools, and public safety. For too long, San Francisco has feared change.
In 2022, we must embrace change. It’s time to prioritize outcomes over ideology. It’s time to fix San Francisco.
In just a few weeks, you will get the chance to start fixing things in a very real way. Every voter will receive a ballot in the mail for a special election to recall the school board. If you live on the east side of the city, you will also be asked to pick a new assemblymember to represent you at the state capitol.
Our school board failed at its job and their incompetence is well documented. GrowSF has been working hard on this recall because well-managed public schools are a necessity for any city to thrive.
The other important question on the ballot is picking a new assemblymember. GrowSF wholeheartedly supports the candidate of change, Bilal Mahmood. All the other candidates served for years in local government positions and had a hand in many of the disastrous decisions that got us to this crisis point.
Be sure to mail back your ballot before Election Day on February 15. Read the GrowSF voter guide and tell your friends to vote like the future of our city depends on it.
After you vote in February, you’ll have three more chances in 2022 to fix San Francisco by electing better local leaders:
April — Assembly district general election (east side)
June — District attorney recall (citywide) and assembly district primary (east and west side)
November — Supervisors (even-numbered districts) and assembly district general election (east and west side)
A few hundred votes can determine a winner in low-turnout local elections. That’s why if you want to fix San Francisco, you need to vote — and know to vote for the true change agents. The GrowSF voter guide will help you learn who they are.
GrowSF wants to:
Build more housing at all price points.
Improve public schools so they treat parents like partners.
Invest in public safety.
Increase public transit.
Establish a citywide network of protected bike lanes.
Create a new oceanside park at the former Great Highway.
Streamline small business regulations so every idea has a chance.
Ensure City Hall embraces innovation and is free from corruption.
GrowSF celebrates art and culture, values compassion, seeks sustainability, and practices social justice. We seek a city government that is efficiently managed, responsive to quality of life issues, and above all follows common sense.
